Rector - Rev. Dr. John Oakes (on leave February 1 to December 31, 2012)

John Oakes has been  Rector of Holy Trinity Vancouver since 2002 and Regional Dean of Granville-Point Grey since 2009. From February 1 to December 31, 2012, he is on extended leave as a Visiting Fellow at Yale Divinity School. John has also previously at St. Mark, Ocean Park, St. Cuthbert, North Delta, and St. John (Shaughnessy). He has  a PhD. in History from Simon Fraser University. He was also educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, Regent College, University of British Columbia and Vancouver School of Theology. He has taught at Regent College and the Vancouver School of Theology. In the 1980s John  worked as both a journalist and editor in the UK, most recently editing the inter-denominational Christian magazine "Today." John has been married to his wife Kirsten since 1982 and they have two adult daughters.


Interim Priest-in-Charge - Rev. Jim Fergusson (February 1 to May 20, 2012)

The Rev. Jim Fergusson, Holy Trinity's Interim Priest-in-Charge from February 1 to May 20, has been ordained about 50 years. He has served a number of parishes in the Docese of New Westminster, including, as Rector, All Saints, Mission, and St. Mark, Ocean Park, where he was incumbent from 1994-2003. Over the course of a long and wide-ranging career, Jim was also a representative of the Canadian Church in Jamaica for 10 years and he worked in youth services in Richmond. During Jim’s tenure at St. Mark, the parish underwent an exciting period of growth, undertaking such bold initiatives as the innovative “Journey through Christmas” display that has attracted thousands of visitors since December 1999. Jim was Rector during John Oakes’ two-year ministry as Associate Priest at St. Mark before his appointment to Holy Trinity.


Interim Priest-in-Charge - Rev. Arthur Nash (May 21 - December 31, 2012)

The Rev. Arthur Nash,  Interim Priest-in-Charge from May 21 until the Rector’s return January 1, 2013, has enjoyed a long and fruitful career in ordained ministry. He has been Rector of St. David, Tsawwassen (1979-88), and of St. Margaret of Scotland, Burnaby, where he served from 1993 until his retirement after 40 years in the priesthood in 2008.  At St. David’s, Arthur helped lead the parish into the vanguard of charismatic renewal in this diocese. At St. Margaret, he safely saw a relatively conservative congregation through the challenging period surrounding the 2002 decision of Diocesan Synod to approve the blessing of same-sex unions. Arthur has led a very active retirement since 2008, serving as Interim Priest-in-Charge at two parishes of similar size to Holy Trinity – St. Andrew, Langley, and St. David, Tsawwassen.

Rector's Assistant and Parish Administrator - Sharon Grove

Sharon has served as Rector's Assistant and Parish Administrator at Holy Trinity since summer 2008. Under the Rector's supervision, she oversees day-to-day management of our multi-purpose building, as well as providing secretarial and support services to the parish. Sharon has many years' experience in commerce, administration and church work, She volunteers at her home parish of St. Cuthbert, North Delta, for the Diocesan Evangelism Unit,and at Mission to Seafarers, where she is a Part-time Receptionist. 

                                                     Organist - Michael Dirk

Michael Dirk has been Holy Trinity's Organist and Choirmaster since May 1, 2010. He has worked as a concert and church organist since 2002, serving at both Anglican and Lutheran churches in Canada and the U.S.. He has directed church, light opera and other choirs and is an experienced piano teacher. Michael's educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Music degree from UBC and a Master of Music, Performance from Rice University in Houston, Texas. Michael has described primary goals for his  ministry as "learning and expressing the Word of God through music" and "striving passionately toward
offering ‘first fruits’ quality."
